I got up really early this mornings and started hiking with my headlamp the about 8 km to Messinas port. I wanted to be in Reggio di Calabria before noon and the ferry from Messina was going only every 2 to 2.5 h on Saturday. When I came down onto the dirt road from my camp spot, I saw somebody with a torch! But when I was on the road, I couldn't see anybody anymore. I continued hiking but got my pepper spray in my right hand. And sure, not long after, in a road bend, somebody was shining his torch directly into my eyes. I stopped, blinked, greeted and then continued. It was obviousely an older guy, who greeted after I did and took away his torch.
Then I walked through town and managed to get to the ferry just before 8 am, which was perfect because that's when the ferry left :) In Reggio di Calabria I decided to walk the 8 km to my accommodation, since I wasn't allowed to check in before 11:30 am anyways. It is pretty much out of town and maps.me lead me over non existing paths and over fences again... one time a man saw me crawling through a hole in the fence and said I could be arrested for it. But he didn't say much more...
I checked in my room, roasted chestnuts, washed a few things, took a shower, went food shopping, unsuccessfully tried to find a better way to walk back into town tomorrow, ate pizza and suddenly its past 6 pm and I still need to do some cooking, want to look up things in the Internet etc. Crazy how fast a town day can be over!
I am looking forward to go hiking in Aspromonte National Park tomorrow, but the weather forecast is pretty bad: lots of rain, also for the next few days.
