Greece - Day 27: Roads and a lovely path along a river

Another slow start, since I slept late last night: Greece Easter seems to be a loud festivity...

It was cool in the morning and I woke up to some fog.
Already on the first few hundred meters, I had an acounter with sheep dogs, as I had to pass a flock fenced in next to the road. They were kind of "friendly" dogs (not very aggressive), but the sheer amount of them and my past experiences in Romania let my heart beat fast. At least I was awake now!

Today was a road walk day, sometimes paved, sometimes gravel, but never busy. I passed a few villages, where it smelled deliciously like grilled meat, as everybody was having a barbecue for Easter.

The highlight in the morning was a nice dirttrack along a small stream with some oak forests. I found a beautiful spot with a water tap under big oaks and had a REALLY early lunch break.

In the afternoon, I came to Karytena, a village glued to a mountain with similar outlay like the byzantine UNESCO site of Mystras. There is also an old byzantine bridge, but it looked damsged and was closed, so I had to use the car bridge.

There must be tons of turtles in Greece, since I saw another one today!

Then I had the real highlight of the day. A small path along the river Louisos. It began at another old bridge and followed the river for a while, sometimes close up, sometimes high above, sometimes along rocks, sometimes over meadows - beautiful!

And I saw my first "real" snake in Greece. It was an large brown snake, but gone too fast to take a picture.

The ascend out of the river gorge was steep but a real trail zig-zagging its way up. Now I am camping on a little open spot, close to the road that I will follow tomorrow.
