I had an amazing day. Finally: Real Mountains, paired with beautiful weather. I walked on the ridge of the Mala Fatra all day and took far too many pictures ;)
I started the day early, as it was gorgeous weather. After some steep uphill, I reached Suchy (1408 m) with alpine vegetation. I loved all the flowers, the views the rocks - it was magical!!!!
There were only 2 people behind me, but we manged to just meet very shortly on nice peaks.
At first it was a little bit of 'climbing' on an edge, then some smooth hiking over peaks. But when I came around the corner towards the 1709 m high Vel'ky Krivan, all magic suddenly disappeared. There were at least 20 people hiking up, since there is a gondola close by. However, I made a quick walk up there and continued on the ridge.
It was so beautiful, that I decided to have an early lunch in the sun.
I continued on the ridge and then came to a point, where the E3 gains 300 m steeply to Stoh, just to drop down again and afterwards go up even steeper 400 m to Vel'ky Rotzsutec, before dropping down again. I could have taken a trail, just staying low and really considered it. I am a lazy person!!!! But it was just too nice and there were less people, so I decided to walk up both instead.
Stoh was nice but not super spectacular, while the walk up Vel'ky Rotzsutec was exciting, strenuous but incredible beautiful.
There was another long and steep decent, before I set up camp at around 700 m elevation.
Instead of making up my own route, more direct to the higher mountains of the Tatra, I will follow the E3 north and the cut south again. Let's see how that will turn out ;)
