Day 89: Another day in the tent

The morning was foggy and still a bit rainy, but I wanted to hike. And after a while, the clouds were lifting and there was even a bit of sun. It looked so hopeful!

I passed a flock of sheep in their fence, but tried to walk away when I saw them. The dogs sniffed me and my direction wasn't the best, as in the dip I was heading to, there were some goats grazing. One dog came faaaar to close, but I ignored him. Honestly, I think even somebody who isn't scared of dogs would start to worry when a dog barking and showing his teeth is not even 1 m away from you... But it turned out all good, as I slowly and steadily walked away from the goats.

I was walking up into the Rodna Mountains National Park and it got fogier and fogier, sometimes I could hardly see a few meters. When I was on the ridge, I saw nothing and there was a light wind. I thought about camping, but all I saw was grass. Then I heard sheep and dogs again in the direction I was heading to. Oh no, I had hoped there are none in the national park! And I couldn't see anything or try to walk around them!!!! Finally the dogs noticed me and I turned around, slowly walking back to where I came from, until they left me alone. By then, the wind got stronger and it started to drizzle. The sheep obviously had moved on and I continued in my direction, making a little detour and passing the sheep without being noticed. I checked my map, where I could possibly camp a little wind sheltered. The trail follows an open ridge, goes even further up and that for kms. But there was a little hill on the windy side, so I hoped to camp there somewhere. The wind picked up, it started to rain seriously, I was freezing cold and couldn't see more than a few meters!!! Shit. No way to set up my tent in these conditions! But then I came to the spot I had looked at on the map and there were mountain pines to hide from the wind. Still relatively tall grass but I didn't care anymore. The rain was a drizzle again, so I set up my tent with frozen feet and fingers. It took me some hours to get warm again....

Another day in the tent, where I was sleeping a lot. At around 6 pm, the sky opened up and I could see the beautiful panorama!!!! Amazing! I packed my things, but it way still windy and cold and looked like it could rain every minute. So I decided to stay in my more or less wind sheltered spot. The trail was going up and would have been for at least 5 km even more exposed. I unpacked again and hide in my sleeping bag. I just hope so much, that it will be nicer tomorrow - dry, not foggy and warmer.  It seems to be such a beautiful area!

And then I thought what a whimp I am. Because there was a shepherd (?, he was without sheep) coming with his dogs, passing my tent. He was just wearing wet jeans and some pullovers, no rain jacket or so. I was freezing and he just walks past as if there is nothing unusual...
