Day 92: A rest day in Vatra Dornei

I woke up a little later this morning and did some blue- and straweberry stops on my way to town. I was very surprised that I had no dog encounter, but the meadows I walked through were either empty or there were fenced in cows. Nice!

I stopped by the campsite but there was nobody at the reception and it looked rather run down. So I waited for a while and meanwhile googled for a cheap alternative. Not that cheap, but I found a pension online that was still cheaper than what I could find on booking or otherwise. So I tried my luck and just walked there, hoping they still have a room available.  On my way I passed a second hand store, where I bought a new T-Shirt, as mine has the first holes on the shoulder.

At first I had trouble finding the pension. There is no sign or anything, but I had a picture of the house.  So I just walked up into the garden, where there were some people. And yes, they had a room, Wifi, a washing machine and even a small kitchen - oh what a luxury!!!!

After a shower I headed into town to get new shoes. But I wasn't lucky. Although it is kind of a biggisher town and this is a great mountain hiking area, the shoes on sale were all crappy cheap sport shoes without profile. I found one sport shop but the only kind of hiking shoes weren't available in sizes larger than 41. In general, 42 was hard to find! Then I found a second hand store with some real hiking things but also there, no luck with my shoe size! So I settled for a pair of REALLY cheap and crappy shoes. I can't see how they should last longer than a week, when my other ones (much sturdier) lastet only 3 weeks. But let's see... If I have lots of 4WD tracks, I should be fine!

I bought incredible amounts of food, cooked 400 g noodles with veggies and managed to eat it all. Warm food and veggies - amazing!!!! My cloths are still drying and I started to check out which route I will take. I would love to hike through the Calimani-Gurghiu National Park, but will take the longer Route of the E8 instead, going through the Ceahlau National Park.  Why easy when you can make it more complicated ;)

The people here in the pension are very nice. It is called 'Pensuinea Magda' and is close to the center but still a bit outside. Although Lili, the owner, doesn't speak much English, I know now that she has a daughter  (Magdalena) who is a lawyer and has a 4 year old grandson  (Alex), who dances. They have a fast food trailer at the ski slope in winter and she has 7 pairs of ski in winter to offer her guests for free. Then she gave me a glass of cherries and jam, that she had prepared a few days ago. Nice desert :)

The plan is to continue tomorrow, but I still have lots of things to do. So I guess I won't leave until late tomorrow. Or even stay a night longer, if I feel like it.

Heading towards town

My new shoes - won't last long!

Yeah, so much good food :)
