Italy - Day 13: Sentiero Castagna

I woke up this morning before my alarm clock with a big smile: it was warm, no rain, no wind, no fog. Great! I packed quickly but at that moment it started go rain. Luckily, it was only a really short shower, so I could start hiking before 7 am.

I walked over roads and open fields, leaving Aspromonte National Park. The markers J followed, didn't always match the gpx track, but I rather followed the markers. When I entered the forest again, I must have missed the right markings and ended up walking the road. The thing is, that there is obviousely a cycling route that follows the road and is also marked. Everything here is marked with the same red and white stripes. I made the mistake once before, that I shortcut because I saw markings. I missed the indicators, that it was a 3 way crossing and started following the wrong trail... I realised it this morning after a while, but going back from the road to the trail would have been a huge detour. So I followed the quiet road until the trail hit it again. From there on I checked my map more frequently ;)

In the afternoon, I passed 2 villages and followed nice little trails often along gardens. And along sooooo many chestnut trees!!! I think the trail should be called Sentiero Castagna :) I didn't make much progress, cause I ate so much: apples, tomatoes, walnuts, blackberries, figs  hazelnuts and of course chestnuts :)

It rained a few times and got foggy today, but never too much and I was able to wait ut the rain under some trees. It was even slightly sunny in-between! It got really ugly this afternoon and I was still in a village. But luckily it stopped long enough for me to walk into the next forest, find a lovely spot under old beech and young fir trees and set up my tent. Perfect timing, because it was raining a lot!!!
