Italy - Day 5: Food, a nice river and lots of rain

It was nice warm at night and looked like a sunny day, when I headed down some roads towards Randazzo for shopping. Since I hadn't come across water and wouldn't til the end of the day (if at all), I bought 1.5L lemonade and drank it right away.

Maps.me had again a few non existing paths and let me climb fences with "private property" signs. I passed Rocella Valdemone, a village that looked like it is glued to the mountain. Then I followed a river upstream, first over pastures, then through forest, which was very pleasant. But I didn't wanted to drink the water, since there were still pastures and animal shit everywhere.

Already before noon, it had been thundering and a few raindrops fell, but nothing serious. I took my lunch break under a tree, when the sky got really dark, but nothing happened. Around 2 pm, there were thunderstorms and it rained like crazy. I found a wonderful big tree and hid for 2 hours, hoping the thunderstorms would pass. I really wanted to get a little more hiking done and sleep further uphill to have cell reception. Also the weather report didn't predict much rain. I finally gave up and started walking to find a campspot. When I walked up to a little plateau that looked like a good campspot  I discovered that I had only cut the switchbacks of the road I was walking on. There was a building on my map with a water source not far away, so I continued to have a look. It was only a ruin with a breaking down roof and lots of animal shit inside. The water source was so slow, my cup gets filled faster with rain water from my tent! By then I was already wet and decided to camp quickly. I walked up the hill, but the rain continued and I was not looking forward to set up my tent in the pouring rain. So I walked further than I had intended until I decided there is no way around doing this in the rain.

Rocella Valdemone and some dark clouds

There must be porcupines somewhere

Doesn't look like there are lots of hikers lately, but I found a sign!
