Yesterday night, I had a spectacular light show: lots of insects were flying around, blinking constantly.
In the morning I passed by Oliveto Citra, without going into town, as it would have been too early to go shopping anyways. My food supplies are rather low, but since I found 2 cans of beans on the road today, it should be all right. My road walk finally brought me to Senerchia, at the foot of some mountains. The following dirt road was winding, with lots of switch backs - really nice to walk up the nearly 1000 m elevation. Even the 3.5 L of water that I was carrying, wasn't too bad this way. I am drinking a lot at the moment and since I thought I would camp before the next village, I filled up on water in Senerchia.
Then I walked trails in nice beech forests and had some views (even of the sea!) from meadows and the highest point of today, the 1790 m high Monte Polveracchio.
The trail dropped down to Acerno, which I quickly wanted to cross and then camp. However, the "forest" on the map past Acerno turned out to be agricultural land, so I walked at least 3 km further than intended, sleeping on a little hill next to the 4WD track under some beech trees.
That's where I have to walk up today
Yummy - Two cans of beans found on the road
Up we go...
Lunch spot on the top - do you see my hiking poles?
There is still snow and that was just the beginning....
Looking back on Senerchia
