The morning was gray and I had some road walk around Montesarchio, so I was not very motivated, delaying things, going shopping (although I had enough food) and using the Wifi in town.
But the road walk was way better and shorter than expected. I just didn't manage to fill up on water, since the last 3 water sources out of town were either turned off or locked. Even the cemetery was locked!!! But at least I found a few half ripe cherries and mulberries.
The trail went up again, passing a cave with some paintings. If the weather wouldn't have been so hazy, it would have been a VERY scenic hike up towards Monte Taburno. The last bit in the beech forest was magnificent with all the flowering Bärlauch and so I enjoyed it after all.
Since I had no water anymore and was pretty thirsty from hiking up nearly 1000 m, I left the Sentiero Italia (SI) for a bit, to get to a spring. When I saw it, I was afraid, it would only be a muddy whole in the ground, visited by cows, but it turned our to be a nice spring with fresh, cold water.
When I met the SI again, it dropped down into pastures, with some muddy (luckily mostly dry at ghe mkment) and thorny paths. But it was well marked and easy to follow. Not so much anymore, once I was hiking up again. Either the SI is not marked there or re-routed. After a bit of loosing the trail, I found a big path. And finally, a night in a nice beech forest :)
A dark morning
A long straight road...
This is where I had to walk up
